Nursery featured in Oxford Mail

We had a visit from the Oxford Mail last week and the children had lots of fun posing for photos and testing out the paints for our sponsor a plank initiative, which is part of our 50th anniversary celebrations. Read the article here.

For the sponsor a plank drive, we’re inviting old members (as well as current nursery children, and indeed anyone else who fancies joining in) to paint their handprint on our new fence for £1 a plank.

This fun activity will take place at the Spring Fete on Saturday, May 11 from 2-5pm.

Money raised from the family friendly event will help pay for everday supplies for the children such as paints, play sand, cooking ingredients, paper and pens, as well as larger equipment and resources.

As nursery manager Catherine Morey explains: “Fundraising is an important part of our annual budget to ensure that we break even each year.

“Income from fees and Government funding for free places cover our basic staffing and overheads – but everything else has to be raised by donation, grants or fundraising.

“This helps us pay for good-quality materials, activities and experiences for the children to enjoy, from music to painting, role play and planting vegetables.”

The nursery, which has been looking after young children across South Oxford since 1969, started with short play sessions in South Oxford Community Centre.
